Independent advisors know that data and analytics can drive business results, but most do not take full advantage of their potential. Analytics can improve a RIA's practice efficiency, marketing return on investment (ROI) and profitability. And yet, most advisors hardly scratch the surface in how they use their own data...
Last Friday, I got the chance to speak at IA Watch’s Cybersecurity for Financial Services. I was joined by tech visionary Wes Stillman, CEO of RightSize Solutions. We presented for forty-five minutes on the importance and nuances of data loss prevention, one part of a series on technology, tools, and practices central to cybersecurity...

Advisors who run successful RIA firms have mastered the art of making smart business decisions amid suboptimal conditions and external pressures in the wealth management industry. Over the past two months we have had the pleasure of hosting Gavin Zheng, a Summer intern from the West Side YMCA’s Teen Career Connection program. By way of quick background, the YMCA program is designed to provide high schoolers with opportunities to explore career paths, build their resumes, and learn professionalism. Once a year, I try to take a trip with each of my daughters, Zoe (14) and Gabrielle (12). Most recently, I went to Boston with Gabi. I could talk in depth about why Boston is a lovely city…but to be honest, we could have been anywhere and enjoyed it.
It seems over the past year we've lost a great number of musicians -- at least the ones I grew up listening to. The Allman Brothers in particular was one of the bands we spent a lot of time listening to.
Mt Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, in the country of Tanzania. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to climb to it's 19,341 ft peak in February 2017. The mountain is part of the Kilimanjaro National Park and is a major climbing destination for mountaineers at all skill levels.
